Fuel Aid 2008 aims to warm hearts, homes in Attleboro
Morin's, 16 South Main St., Attleboro, MA

Fuel oil costs may have come off their $4-a-gallon peak of last summer, but winter heating bills are still a critical worry to many local seniors, needy families and those who have lost jobs to the worsening economic crisis.

That?s why two musical groups representing vastly different tastes and generations have come together to stage an evening of music Dec. 13 at Morin?s Hometown Bar and Grill to benefit the Attleboro Energy Fund. Titled ?Fuel Aid 2008: Cool Tunes, Warm Hearts,? each band will present separate, full-length shows back-to-back.

Third Shift Jazz, a local quartet dishing swinging favorites by Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Ray Charles, George Gershwin and Al Jarreau, will open the evening 8-10 p.m. with a nightclub-style show designed to appeal to jazz fans and adult listeners.

New Son Rising, an up and coming Boston original quintet, will take over from 10-12 with a pair of acoustic sets catering to 20-something rock and roll fans.

For a suggested donation of only $5, music fans will be able to attend the show of their choice, or stay for both if they desire. Any way you slice it, there?s something for everyone in this intergenerational evening of music.

All proceeds will go to the Attleboro Energy Fund, launched last June by Mayor Kevin Dumas to help city residents experiencing financial hardships get temporary assistance with their energy bills. The initiative is co-sponsored by the Attleboro Council on Aging, the City of Attleboro Public Health Nurse, the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Sun Chronicle.

Third Shift jazz includes Sun Chronicle music journalist Rick Foster on vocals/trumpet, Bob Flaherty of Attleboro on drums, Mark Brown of Marion on guitar and Helder Costa of Dartmouth on bass.

The award-winning New Son Rising consists of Jake Lundell on vocals, Steve Ohlson and Terry Bratsis, guitars, Jonas Ozz, bass, and Adam Nichols, drums.
