Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue

Angelcat Haven Feline Rescue based in Plainville, MA is proud to announce it's 500th cat rescue!

According to President and Feline Coordinator Angela Frankudakis, "Lucky number 500 is a three month old kitten named Bory. She is just one of a group of eight cats and kittens taken in over the Labor Day weekend, which includes mom Aroura, (#499) and her two kittens Bory, (#500) and Alys (#501)." Says Frankudakis of the achievement, "We're especially proud that this milestone comes after only four years in operation! On behalf of the rescued cats, I would like to express my gratitude to our dedicated staff of volunteers and supporters, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the choice to adopt a cat or kitten from us!"

With unemployment at an all time high and many local foreclosures, shelters and rescues are at full capacity. The need for a shelter building to house the increasing number of stray, surrendered and abandoned cats has never been greater. Angelcat Haven hopes to build a modern new shelter to better serve the needs of the community and its homeless cats. Donations for the building fund as well as general daily cat care are always welcomed.

Cardi's Furniture is Proud to Support

Julie's Family Learning Program

This program has served the Greater Boston community over the last 35 years by helping hundreds of disadvantaged, low-income single mothers and their children break the cycle of poverty. By providing families the critical tools they need ? education, job training, parenting and life skills, food and clothing assistance, excellent childhood programming, a Montessori pre-school, and much more - the families can finally pull themselves out of crisis and move towards much greater stability. Most importantly, this in turn opens the door to a far better future for the children, and the destructive legacy of intergenerational poverty can be brought to an end. The innovation of Julie's is that approach to education and social services is holistic, intensive, and tailored to the families' pressing needs. Instead of having to navigate a labyrinth of services spread throughout the city, mothers can access over twenty services in one single, welcoming location. Serving the parent and child simultaneously has the additional effect of strengthening the family unit and fostering healthy parent-child relationships.

Discover the Stadium Theater 2011 Season!!!

Stadium Theatre Performing Arts Centre
28 Monument Square, Main Street
Woonsocket, RI 02895
Phone: 401-762-4545
Fax: 401-765-4949

The Stadium Theatre was built in 1926 and was recognized as one of the finest theatres in the country.

The Stadium Theatre was erected under the supervision of Mr. R. E. Hall, chief consultant, architect and engineer in the construction of the Paramount Theatre in New York. The Stadium Realty Foundation, Arthur I. Darman, President and Treasurer operated the Theatre. In 1926, artist Maurice Compris chose his theme of Muses to decorate the lobby and the Grand Hall.

The Stadium stopped operating as a daily theatre in the 1970’s and was left unheated for many years. Francis L Lanctot, former Mayor of the city of Woonsocket, had a vision that the Stadium could once again become vibrant and prosper. Through his enthusiasm, patience, and persistance the “Save Our Stadium” Committee was formed in 1991 with the soul purpose of saving and restoring the theatre to it’s former glory. After a strong, cross section of community leadership came forward and was able to demonstrate local support for the restoration of the theatre through public events, feasibility studies and economic impact projects; the non-profit Stadium Theatre Foundation was formed. The Foundation received it’s 501 - c (3) approval as a non-profit corporation in 1996. In March 1998, the Foundation purchased the theatre. Thanks to strong grassroots and business support, the Foundation was able to use grants and donations as a down payment. From 1996 to present, approximately Three Million Dollars has been raised. Restoration took place under the direction of Daniel Peloquin, Architect and the John Canning Preservation and Restoration Studios.

A gala 75th anniversary celebration took place in September of 2001. This magnificent facility has been operating ever since under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors and has offered outstanding local, regional, and nationally renowned live entertainment.

Cardi's Furniture is proud to support The Stadium Theatre. For a complete listing of shows, ticket purchase and more information, click the "Event Link" below.

In 2004, the American Heart Association (AHA) faced a challenge. Cardiovascular disease claimed the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention. In fact, many even dismissed it as an “older man’s disease.” To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women – a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.

Go Red For Women encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease, and also action to save more lives. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them the tools they need to lead a heart healthy life.

In 2010, the American Heart Association set a strategic goal of reducing death and disability from cardiovascular disease and strokes by 20% while improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% by the year 2020.

There are many ways for you to support the cause. Whether it's organizing a Corporate Wear Red Day at work, or donating in the name of a loved one affected by heart disease, each time you donate you'll contribute to the effort to wipe out heart disease in women.

Give Life, Give Blood!

Every moment Keith Bloomer spends with his family is precious, the result of his own determination and posotive attitude, years of treatment and blood donors.
Thirteen years ago, Keith was diagnosed with scleroderma, a disease that reduced his lung capacity to 50 percent. Numerous treatments were able to stablize Keiths lung capacity - at least for a time. Four years ago his lung capacity dipped even further, leading to a double lung transplant.
Today, with much of his lung capacity restored, Keith can keep up with his seven-year-old daughter, Kaitie, and says he's "alive today because of his blood donors and organ donor."
You could be her miricle match!
Isabelle appears to be the typical three-year-old, full of energy, at least for a few days following her monthly blood transfusion.
As the month progresses she'll have less and less energy and with in four to five weeks require another transfusion, proceedures that are keeping Isabelle Mirzaei alive until a match is found on the Be The Match marrow registry. Isabelle suffers from a genetic blood disorder, Beta Thalassemia.
Cardi's Furniture is proud to host Blood Drives through out the year. All drives will be located at our Rt. 2 W. Warwick, RI, Swansea, MA, S. Attleboro, MA, S, Kingstown, RI, and Providence, RI locations.

July 2012

The Blessing of the Fleet has been a South County tradition for thirty-seven consecutive years. What began as a ceremony to ask for “Divine protection” of those who risk their lives harvesting the sea, has blossomed into one of South County’s most popular weekend-long events.

The July event will be “kicked off’ with a scenic, 10-mile roadrace in the evening.

The course, which winds its way through historic Narragansett, is officially sanctioned and listed as one of the top three races of its distance in New England. More than 3,000 runners and walkers compete, hailing from all over New England, across the country and around the world. Kick 4 Kids

Professional football player Steve Gostkowski wants to ensure that each child in our region experiences the joys of childhood regardless of health issues. That’s why he has joined with Hasbro Children’s Hospital to form The Steve Gostkowski Kick 4 Kids Club. The Club was launched at the start of the 2010 NFL season and attracted more than 40 loyal members in a few short months.

Here’s how it works. Each time Steve makes a field goal during a regular season game he donates $300 to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and for each extra point he donates $100. Members of the Club pledge to match Steve’s gift at two giving levels – either $10 or $25 for each field goal and extra point – for maximum individual gifts of $250 or $500. During its inaugural season, the Kick 4 Kids Club raised over $16,000 for Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Members of the Kick 4 Kids Club are eligible to win commemorative football memorabilia signed by Steve. Those who join at the higher giving level are also invited to a reception with Steve at the end of the season. At our recent celebration for the 2010 season we raffled several items including a signed Gostkowski jersey, cleats, hats and game balls. Steve offered warm thanks to attendees and spoke with passion about his support for Hasbro Children’s Hospital. He shared stories with great humor and humility about his experiences in the NFL.

Hasbro Children’s Hospital is fortunate to have the support of Citadel Broadcasting stations to promote the Kick 4 Kids Club on local radio. WPRI Channel 12 and Fox Providence have provided PSA’s which aired when the Club launched in late August 2010. Design services for the solicitation brochure were generously provided by (add)ventures.

Funds raised by the Kick 4 Kids Club are directed to the Hasbro Children’s Hospital General Fund which supports essential programs throughout the hospital such as Child Life Services, Healing Arts, the Injury Prevention Program, and a variety of clinical and enrichment programs.

An evening of most unusual entertainment the paranormal is planned for Saturday, February 11 at 7:30 pm at the Westerly Armory. Rory Raven, mentalist, best known as the creator and guide of the Providence Ghost Walk, and author of the book, Haunted Providence, brings his one-man show entitled Brainstorming: Knowing and Wondering to Westerly. This is a most entertaining evening the audience will be dazzled.

Rory Raven seems to read minds and bend silverware. Audience members may participate. Raven attributes his abilities to a knowledge of psychology, theatre, and a trained memory. The Souza Elder Stay At Home Fund

On 11/19/2010 The Souza Elder Stay At Home Fund was founded at the Community Foundation of Southeastern MA to help elders with Dementia/Alzheimers and who don't qualify for public assistance get free home care. There is a great need for people to be aware of this fund and to donate. The current goal is to have the fund open at various foundations. From there they can make grants to non-profits across the U.S. as apposed to only local non-profits. Services will come from agency's that the non-profits work with. At Southeastern they have one year to raise $10,000 to start, however after that, donations need to keep coming in to keep the services out there. "Keep Our Elders Home" is their motto. This fund will prevent elders who qualify from being put in an institution. To donate today click the "Event Link" below.

LaSalette Welcome Center, 947 Park Street (Rt. 118)

Who’s On Mount Rushmore and why:
Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Mount Rushmore is the world’s largest public sculpture and foremost mountain carving.

Impressed by the “bigness” of America, Gutzon Borglum, who designed Mount Rushmore, believed American sculpture must be as immense as the land itself.

Join us as we discuss why Borglum chose to chisel the features of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt onto the face of Mount Rushmore and why his work remains today a source of deep controversy and bitterness among Native Americans.

Suggested Donation: A $5.00 donation at the door goes towards the Attleboro Energy Fund. For every $5 donation, you will be receive a chance to win a Recliner from Cardi’s Furniture ( you must be present at the event to win).
